Reporting to the Chief Brand Officer, the Director Product Development will be an integral member of the team and responsible for leading our in-house and external product development partners to create innovative and cutting edge cannabinoid infused ingestible and topical products.
Manage and lead product development team and processes, taking products through conception, formulation and packaging stages while staying in close communication with operations and manufacturing for scale.
Oversee and manage sourcing for all product packaging (new products and repacking) and interface with creative/design, supply chain, quality and regulatory teams to ensure packaging is developed on time, on budget and meets both quality standards and aesthetic expectations
Maintain ongoing communication with sales and marketing teams for post-launch evaluations and follow-up.
Work closely with sales and marketing to drive innovation for new products and concepts that explore new form factors for the brands and deliver competitively superior performance.
Work closely with external innovation labs to ensure products are developed on time and at cost, meeting all sales and marketing timelines. Guide and focus product development including target product attributes, portfolio fit, claims, cost, etc.
Oversee the design, sourcing, development, production, testing and delivery of all packaging components
Create packaging specifications and testing protocols for all products
Apply industry knowledge to drive both product and packaging development
Conduct ongoing market research and trendspotting and determine consumer needs.
Work closely with internal legal and regulatory teams to ensure all necessary information from ingredient suppliers, co-manufacturers, packaging suppliers and innovation labs is secured to meet all launch timelines.
Identify and implement processes to improve efficiency and speed to market.
Work to optimize product COGS based on financial targets.
Work with brand team on developing business cases for new products; build performance metrics to help advise future development strategies.
Manage, coach and develop product development team members.
Coordinate product development team's objectives and schedules.
Stay current on new brands, products, technologies, ingredients, fragrances, flavors, packaging and pricing across ingestible and skincare.
BS or MS Degree in related field
10+ years experience in beauty, dietary supplement and/or food product development
Understanding of the new product development timeline/lifecycle
Strong project management skills
Strong communication skills - ability to identify and communicate opportunities, challenges, risks, and change requirements in a timely and responsive manner and report on all aspects of development across the organization (cross-departmental as well as C Suite)
Familiarity working with external innovation labs, marketing, operations, legal and regulatory
Successful track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
Experience in the supplements and/or health and wellness industries a plus (but not required)
Experience managing, developing and growing product development teams
