Position Summary/Objective

The Director of Retail Operations, MA is responsible for overseeing and managing a team of retail market and store managers across the company’s cannabis dispensary locations in Massachusetts, which currently includes 4 locations in Fitchburg, Lynn, Watertown & Dorchester. This position will manage and oversee the operations and management of our dispensary locations. We are building a strong ethical and team-oriented culture at Ethos Cannabis and are looking for this position to help lead and promote this vision.

We are seeking a passionate, driven, detailed oriented and collaborative Director of Retail Operations for Massachusetts to provide strategic leadership, direction, and support to the company’s growing team of dispensary managers and staff to maximize sales, margin, and profit with a customer service focus. The ideal candidate has the ability to adapt to our business model and has demonstrated leadership experience, as he or she will be given significant responsibility over the retail operations of our business to deliver a best in class and innovative cannabis retail experience. Previous cannabis retail experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support dispensary market and store level managers and employees and act as their liaison with the executive management team and market-level operations leaders.
  • Lead the operationalization of our dispensary locations in Massachusetts including the pre-opening and post opening functionality and implementation of our unique approach to ordering and fulfillment.
  • Lead the development of standard operating procedures and employee training materials while partnering with the Director of Retail Operations for Pennsylvania & Maryland, aligning on strategy and operational consistency where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other functional leaders in developing and implementing a best in class customer experience.
  • Deliver optimal productivity in stores through operational excellence, process improvement, and consistent resolution of challenges.
  • Establish process for labor optimization in stores while keeping in line with payroll budgets.
  • Manage all aspects of retail operations with a customer-first mentality and an intense focus on company culture and ethics, customer service, sales growth, and brand standards.
  • Partner with employees, managers, and other functions to discover and understand our customer needs, identify areas of opportunity, and deliver solutions for growth.
  • Partner with leadership regarding marketing strategy and initiatives in collaboration with current managers and the marketing team.
  • Work collaboratively with compliance, security, and transportation managers regarding compliance, loss prevention, security, and logistics on all mutual issues and in prioritization of needs.
  • Interface with IT managers to develop and continually assess tech roadmap and implementation and adjust based on business needs.
  • Ensure compliance on all policies, standards, and values.
  • Attend meetings as requested and work collaboratively with other departments to ensure mission fulfillment and completion of company objectives and special projects.
  • Assess business trends and actively partner with corporate stakeholders in order to strategize retail growth and drive business initiatives.
  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPI), track metrics and provide guidance to achieve goals and profitability targets.
  • Work with market level and store level managers and staff to develop community in stores.
  • Accountable for controllable cost versus plan and the identification of continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Lead initiatives, store strategies, and specific projects assigned by the VP of Retail and executive-level management across all markets and stores.
  • Report directly to the VP of Retail and other executive-level management and consult with market-level operations leaders.
  • Manage all direct reports, providing them guidance, feedback, and ongoing leadership support.

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required.

Work Experience:

  • 10+ years of consumer products and/or health and wellness retail experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in the Cannabis industry
  • Multiple years of management experience which must include managing multiple stores and performing retail purchasing in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Considerable exposure to retail cultures focused on well-developed standard operating procedures and management and employee training programs.
  • Experience in inventory management and reconciliation.
  • Human Resources management experience to include hiring, training, records management, performance reviews, payroll processing, and more.
  • Work history that demonstrates stability, progressive responsibility, and willingness to accept new duties with a growth mindset and initiative.

  • Proficiency in computer usage including retail point-of-sale software, all MS Office applications, email, scheduling software, online conferencing, and more
  • Ability to develop, analyze, and interpret KPI’s, and read, analyze, and interpret financial reports relating to dispensary performance metrics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills including anticipatory thinking and the ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a calm composure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably and effectively within a diverse, multicultural, multigenerational environment.

Other Requirements:

  • Extended time sitting, walking, bending, and reaching is possible.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for a distance of 100 feet.
  • Must pass stringent background test requirements of Massachusetts

This position is classified as Exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay. Compensation is commensurate to experience.
