The Market Director manages, directs and implements operations strategies and objectives to ensure the achievement of Market goals. S/he is responsible for overall seed to sale operations activities which include but are not limited to cultivation, formulation, manufacturing, filling and finishing operations for medicinal grade products, compliance tracking and the sale of those products to licensed dispensaries in the State (wholesale) as well as to qualifying patients served by the Company’s own licensed dispensary in the State (retail).  Provides leadership for Market retail, wholesale and manufacturing operations and maintenance to achieve and maintain the highest standards of quality, patient satisfaction, service, and manufacturing capability to accomplish production and sales goals. 

 

Major Areas of Responsibility include:

Management of Resources:

  • Provide leadership and oversight of retail, wholesale, production and manufacturing to include formulation, filling and finished medicinal grade medical marijuana products to meet the demands of the market and have a competitive product assortment.Sets parameters to judge how efficiently and effectively the Market is operating and tracking against plan.
  • Assure compliance with all procedures and policies concerning all areas of quality, regulatory, security, transport, safety and human capital management.
  • Ensure performance, quality, cost, schedule, in-stock, profit and patient satisfaction targets are achieved with risks identified and mitigated and opportunities exercised.

 

Financial Management:

  • Strategically identify CAPEX required for machinery and other equipment to match production and delivery plans.  Develop ROI business case for all CAPEX requests.
  • Track and control unit COGS and selling expenses in alignment with business plan.  Create and manage production, dispensary and wholesale budgets and P&L.
  • Manage supply chain and other resources to minimize costs of production.  Review business forecasts, sales reports and financial statements to maximize results and sustainability.  
  • Initiate and implement actions to maximize profits by containing expenses through improved operating and cost efficiencies.  Develop, approve, and meet financial budgets, plans, and updates.

 

Quality Assurance, Compliance & Control: 

  • Work with quality assurance personnel to develop plans/focus to assure continuous improvements that will benefit operations.  Provide leadership and valuable participation in team activities that will enhance the overall effectiveness of the Market.
  • Generate/manage SOP’s to govern compliance within the Market.  Ensure compliance with all State and local regulations governing the IL program.  Operational interface with state and local regulators. 
  • Track all state license and agent card renewals to ensure that Company and its employees meet all registration renewal deadlines.
  • Ensure all Company locations maintain strict compliance with seed-to-sale tracking requirements set by the State.
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to health and safety procedures.
  • Monitor quality standards of products.  Determine and implement improvements to the production process.
  • Establish and control conditions of production in order to satisfy patient and quality specifications.

 

Planning & Forecasting:

  • Manage and align inventory methods, levels and cycles to Market demands and forecasts.
  • Develop strategic plans and objectives in accordance with the overall strategy, execute business plans through functional reports while providing leadership, coaching and direction.
  • Identify and acquire new market opportunities.
  • Develop a plan to launch concentrates and edibles in-market.
  • Assess and assist in upgrading the management talent base within operations to achieve growth and meet Market needs (i.e., reduce cost, shorter manufacturing/product introduction cycle time, on-time delivery, patient wait times and satisfaction).

 

Human Capital Management & Development:

  • Coach, develop, and mentor direct staff.  Conduct performance reviews; develop growth plans; interpret, implement and support employee-related policies, procedures and programs.   Assign projects/tasks to direct staff.
  • Recruit, train, develop, reward and recognize personnel to achieve targeted strategies and goals.  Develop plans to ensure that each employee receives on-going training on an annual basis. 
  • Create the appropriate organizational structure to reflect and achieve current/planned goals and objectives.  Ensure that all staff embody and project the Company’s values and focus.
  • Align labor to production and sales plans.  Monitor and review the performance of staff and organize performance evaluations, coaching and other measures as necessary.
  • Encourage and support culture of compliance with all state and local regulation and Company policies and procedures.

 

Communication & Coordination:

  • Reporting and presenting financial and operational results to the Executive Team on a regular basis, including monthly operating reviews.
  • Assure timely and relevant communications to and from all levels.  This includes assuring communications between affected reporting areas and to related departments.  Responsible for establishing systems that would enhance intra- and inter-departmental communications.
  • Establish interfaces with business units to assess customer needs and assure accurate project or program technical direction for operations engineering and manufacturing.
  • Collaborating with other managers to determine how operational planning can contribute to the long-term strategic operations of the company by planning the activities that contribute to the overall goals of the organization.
  • Assist in developing product roadmap, new product launches, production and engineering improvements, and product testing.
  • Create a positive culture where the work can get done.  Facilitate communication between employees and departments. 

 

Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge & Abilities):

  • All applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Life Science, Accounting/Finance, or equivalent military background with a minimum of ten years of manufacturing, product management/marketing, franchise, production, retail, wholesale or operational leadership experience.  MBA Preferred.
  • Supply Chain Management experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred. 
  • Must have experience managing teams of people
  • Possess an insurable driving record and a valid driver’s license
  • Skilled in providing leadership and oversight of an entire operational unit (i.e., Market).
  • Skilled in P&L management and reporting.  Ability to forecast and execute on plan.
  • Skilled in managing multi-unit operations.
  • Skilled in management processes, production (and/or retail/wholesale) and people.
  • Skilled in monitoring quality standards of products.  Determining and implementing improvements to the production process.
  • Knowledgeable in developing and launching new products, wholesale distribution, production and engineering improvements, product testing, and quality assurance methods.
  • Knowledgeable in methods to assure compliance with all procedures and policies concerning all areas of quality, regulatory, security, transport and delivery, safety and human capital management.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook sufficient to maintain documents, prepare spreadsheets, perform analytics including charts and graphs and craft presentation material.
  • Ability to drive to multiple work sites without assistance or accommodations.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve and respond with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written, and build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate self-directed and self-motivated work style.  Make effective and timely decisions with confidence.
  • Ability to navigate through tough decisions and deadlines with a sense of urgency and confidence. 
  • Ability to resolve disputes.  
  • Ability to develop and articulate strategic plans, objectives and forward-thinking approach to new ideas and changes in regulatory requirements.
