The Category Lead will develop long-term business strategies aligned with key stakeholders and will also be accountable for managing supplier agreements, evaluating supplier performance, and conducting research to support the CAPEX & MRO category. The ideal candidate is energetic, collaborative and forward- thinking. This position is based out of Toronto, ON.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Lead the development, execution, and implementation of a complete Category Strategy for CAPEX & MRO, collaborating with key stakeholders, Supply Chain team members, and leaders impacted by the respective expenditure categories
  • Conduct research, gather market intelligence, and benchmark analysis to drive value creation and understand supply market and commodity trends
  • Establish and lead cross-functional teams comprised of key stakeholders to collaboratively define business requirements and develop strategic category plans and initiatives that create value and reduce risk
  • Provide direction and strategy to cross functional teams by presenting and justifying projects through PowerPoint, with critical analysis and procurement recommendations, to evaluate the impact of a change in a broader picture
  • Ensure costing and performance targets are achieved, through performance and costing improvement initiatives defined by the Category Strategy, including developing analytical processes, as well as performance and costing KPI’s and metrics
  • Lead the vendor qualifications process to identify critical suppliers and facilitate management of critical supplier relationships through KPI and SLA performance, continuous improvement initiatives and a perspective on the external market to identify trends and changes
  • Manage all supplier relationships for CAPEX & MRO, including conducting Quarterly Business Reviews with critical suppliers and Executive Sponsors
  • Evaluate and analyze suppliers through Supplier Risk Management program and lead appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Lead the negotiations of complex agreements with suppliers, including credit terms with vendors
  • Lead projects of consignment or just in time strategies to reduce inventory levels
  • Deliver category strategy presentations and recommendations to Executive Leadership
  • Ad hoc duties and projects as required
You’ll need to have:
  • University degree or College Diploma is preferred; combination of related procurement training and considerable experience may be considered an equivalent
  • Certified professional procurement designation or equivalent is preferred
  • 5+ years experience as a Procurement professional in the Capital Expenditure Industry
  • Advanced skills in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word required
  • A strong background in project management and leading multiple RFx for highly complex equipment purchases
  • A strong technical background relative to automation equipment
  • Proven ability to lead & negotiate complex agreements with suppliers and key internal stakeholders
  • Ability to lead and conduct market research and benchmarking analysis, as well as effectively analyze data to determine relevant insights and actions
  • Proven track record of tackling complex problems (e.g. outside immediate scope, impacts multiple stakeholders, etc.), often mobilizing resources from other functional groups and/or geographic boundaries to identify and innovate solutions
  • Ability to make appropriate business decisions despite incomplete information, risk assessments, and pressures
  • Team player with strong people skills and a proven ability to collaborate with internal business partners and suppliers to implement solutions
  • Passion to share procurement and supply chain knowledge to ensure awareness throughout the Company
  • Travel will be required
