This individual will provide legal support to a wide range of internal clients, including Executive Management, Commercial, Medical Affairs, Regulatory and Compliance. S/he will also be expected to take on strategic assignments outside of the primary area of responsibility and, as the company and legal function scale, potentially take on a leadership role. The candidate should be a valued strategic partner to the business and provide pragmatic advice that enables the company to achieve its purpose and goals.
What you'll dive into
Partner with the General Counsel to assess the needs of the business, identify and scope risks and scale the Legal function appropriately
Partner with the Compliance team to ensure that the company’s healthcare compliance programs reflect applicable laws, rules, regulations and guidance governing drug promotion, field customer engagement and incentive compensation, financial arrangements with healthcare providers
Counsel on commercial launch preparation activities and brand-related strategic planning and operating plans
Advise clients on a broad array of issues relating to the advertising and promotion of prescription pharmaceutical drug products including, but not limited to, Food Drug and Cosmetic Act and its implementing regulations, OPDP guidance, Anti-kickback Statute, False Claims Act, OIG Guidance, PhRMA Code and Sunshine Act
Serve as the legal representative on the company’s Medical, Legal and Regulatory Committee (MLR)
Provide advice to the corporate, commercial and medical teams on programs, engagements, grants, sponsorships, as well as other initiatives to ensure compliance with relevant healthcare laws, regulations and guidances
Provide legal advice with respect to commercial agreements
Keep informed of new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company
Train company employees, including field personnel
What we expect
A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school and a minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience at a law firm and/or pharmaceutical/biotech company, with a strong preference for at least 5 years in-house with a pharmaceutical/biotech company
In-depth knowledge of commercial, compliance and regulatory matters related to the launch and subsequent commercialization of branded pharmaceutical products
Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues and concepts to non-attorneys and influence across a cross-functional matrix organization
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with demonstrated ability to think creatively and devise solutions to challenging problems
Strong sense of accountability and ownership, highly collaborative
