ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting directly to the VP Hardware Engineering, PAX is looking for a Head of Electrical Engineering (EE) to lead the group of EEs responsible for design, engineering, debug, and validation of PAX hardware products.

This role is responsible for leading and developing modular embedded system architectures that are highly reusable and scalable across our product portfolio. This role will immediately manage a small group of EEs, and will be responsible for growing and maintaining Electrical Engineering as a Center of Excellence within the PAX Hardware Engineering organization.   • Drive electrical engineering best practices, rigorous design execution, to deliver innovative and high performing designs on schedule
  • Heavy collaboration with Product Management, Program Management, Mechanical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Product Integrity, and Manufacturing Operations teams
  • Manage, grow, and coach direct reports on technical issues and interactions, ensuring a psychologically safe and trusting environment to enable high degrees of collaboration
  • Ensure engineers follow appropriate documentation guidelines and hold design reviews in accordance with product development procedures.
  • Oversee and contribute when needed to PCBA development process - from block diagram architecture to schematic, layout (both in Altium preferred), RF design, bring-up and debug, validation, and overall product validation and manufacturing.
  • Deliver high quality output to partner teams, especially Firmware and Operations
  • Lead team in developing, validating, and documenting product and process requirements for successful scale-up of PCBA into manufacturing, in collaboration with Operations
  • Some travel expected to support manufacturing NPI builds post-pandemic
  • Partner with Operations to ensure test fixture function and coverage to ensure high quality mass production output from our CM
  • In the approval path for new product releases and corrective actions (NCR, CAPA) and DCNs (ECOs).
  • Collaborate on embedded or PC-level software tools to control PCB test fixtures and development tools.
  • Create/execute verification and validation protocols in TestRail or Attlassian.
  • Follow PAX Labs’ design control and documentation procedures

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years in consumer products and/or other product development.
  • 2+ years of people management experience.
  • Deep technical background in Electrical Engineering and Electronic System Design.
  • Strong track record of shipping products and managing them through their entire life cycle
  • Experience working with Asian manufacturing and supply chains including travel to manufacturing sites to oversee NPI builds.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and data analytics skills.
  • International travel is expected (< 10%).

  • Have seen multiple product cycles from start to finish and shipping consumer hardware at high volume (7 figures in terms of annual units).
  • Be a creative problem solver and make data-driven decisions.
  • Be hyper-organized and you won’t hesitate to fix something that’s disorganized or broken.
  • Have a natural tendency to identify inefficiencies and take action to resolve them.
  • Effectively lead and influence others, driving decisions cross-functionally across the org that enable your team or deliver on the best technical solution for the company.
  • Practice servant leadership and realize it’s your first responsibility to unblock the team so they can move forward, while also focusing on coaching and mentoring them along the way.

Education:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • MS or PhD in EE or CmpE preferred.
