Reporting to the CTO and CEO, the Director of Operations/Cultivation will be responsible for assisting operations related tasks and any other tasks as required.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Cultivation[DD1] :

Lead an experienced team of master growers on crop steering using parameters such as irrigation scheduling, WC, EC, pH, T, VPD, lighting, CO2 together with Priva controls and building automation systems (BAS).

Schedule plant production and crop cycles for different strains for all cultivation facilities, ensuring a constant supply of high-quality product.

Hands on experience to diagnose and solve cultivation problems in a short amount of time and to lead the team to change and implement change.

Train and evaluate assistant growers to master grower level on the in-depth knowledge of cultivation.

Focus on irrigation scheduling, EC and pH adjustments according to plant growth phases, climate computer settings and assisting the master growers to adjust the parameters as needed to increase yields for different strains of cannabis.

Work with industry leaders to get access to the latest technology and do trials.

Operations:

Define operational plan, cultivation schedule, and human resource planning to support

Manage operations from cultivation to final bulk packaged goods and ensure manufacturing / processing schedule is met

Manage cultivation and post-harvest processing teams

Schedule weekly meetings with managers to plan and execute on daily tasks and improvements.

Update the senior management team on a weekly basis regarding cultivation and operations.

Follow up monthly with H&S managers and address any potential problems.

Follow up that scheduled maintenance are on track.

Report weekly to the CTO on all aspects of cultivation and or any operational problems / solutions.

Collaborate with HR to ensure that all employees are compliant, trained, onboarded and all necessary paperwork is up to date.

Negotiate vendor prices and terms.

Oversee all aspects of post-harvest.

Assist QA with deviation and CAPA reports.

Ensure human redundancy for all cultivation facilities and approve vacation of staff.

Manager 1-on-1’s and performance reviews.

Work with colleges and education departments to recruit top quality candidates.

Schedule and outsource all temporary labour.

Financial Acumen:

Responsible for creating, maintaining, and delivering CAPEX and OPEX budgets for all aspects of cultivation and capital projects.

CAPEX and OPEX budgets for new cultivation expansions, overseeing contractor expenses and commissioning and keeping within the budget and the timeframe allocated for the project.

Determining COGS and cost per gram for all cultivation and post-harvest departments for all the facilities.

Continuous Improvement:

Plan and design different experiments (DOE) to increase yield and potency and decrease costs.

Use analytics to build predictive cultivation and profitability models for different strains for all the cultivation facilities.

Create cultivation cost analysis for different strains and growing methods and report the most beneficial model to the senior management team.

Continuously design and conduct experiments to optimize yield and potency.

Sales & Operations Support:

Participate in weekly S&OP meetings to ensure alignment on cultivation operations and forecasting

Track yields, potency, and weights per room on a weekly basis and update the information for the sales team.

Oversee and validate all aspects of bulk packaged shipments.

Organize logistics for bulk shipments.

What we are looking for:

A person with hands on experience managing large scale cultivation with different departments. This individual must have the necessary skillset to stay calm and composed under tight deadlines, be flexible to manage rapid changes and execute and ensure the procedures are followed working with a broad group of managers.

Furthermore, the successful candidate must be able to see the big picture and plan for the future with attention to detail in mind and be creative and cost efficient.

Education:

B.Sc. Botany / Plant Sciences however a M.Sc. would be beneficial.

Experience:

Minimum 10 years’ experience in the greenhouse industry (vegetable or floriculture) leading the cultivation and overseeing operations.
