Follow standardized best-practice recruiting and hiring practices and procedures necessary to recruit and hire a superior workforce, develop talent, and retain it.
Execute offer process, employee onboarding, and new employee training programs.
Ensure the company has adopted best practices in hiring and employment matters, both to meet all regulatory and compliance standards and to create a great place to work.
Employee Relations and Engagement:
Support management by providing advice and counsel on human resources issues. Build relationships with employees to proactively enhance performance.
Recommend employee relations practices to establish a positive employer-employee relationship to promote a high level of employee morale.
Manage feedback and recognition programs.
Drive employee communications program.
Conduct employee safety training to prevent injuries in the workplace.
Supports and promotes diversity in the work environment.
Work with COO and General Manager regarding staff disciplinary issues.
Conduct Prevention of Harassment and other necessary and relevant trainings for staff
HR - Compliance & Recordkeeping:
Develop and communicate HR policies, procedures, programs and laws.
Develop, analyze, and update the company’s employee handbook on policies and procedures.
Maintaining affirmative action programs.
Creating and revising job descriptions.
Implement and keep management informed of changes in local or federal laws or regulations, including employee-related licensing.
Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation.
As required by law and plan documents, document and retain employee, HR general compliance and benefit plan records.
Oversee compliance with specific cannabis-related regulations relating to certifications, immunizations, and other.
Manage accommodation requests.
Manage regulated leave programs including DC FMLA, DC Paid Family Leave, and DC Sick and Safe Leave.
Maintain and update, as directed, an operations and procedures manual that will ensure effective internal communications and operations.
Give ongoing coaching and counsel to managers related to employee concerns, company programs, development, disciplinary counseling, and actions, and improving employee retention etc.
Manage employee relations and investigations within the organization.
Provide employees and managers with advice and counsel on employee relations issues.
Monitor and advise managers and supervisors in performance coaching. Monitor the implementation of a performance improvement process with non-performing employees.
Participate in administrative and relevant staff meetings.
Lead competitive market research to establish benefit programs that help to recruit and retain superior staff.
Administer benefit programs.
Counsel on benefits and leave programs as related to workers' compensation, short-term disability, long-term disability, family medical leave (FMLA), and other leaves.
Compliance Related Task:
Review New Patient packets.
Assist with review of proper discount applications.
DOH Licensing tracking.
Review of Patient files in Leaf Logix and METRC for compliance with DOH guidelines.
5-7 years operations or HR leadership experience inclusive of recruiting.
Basic knowledge of current human resources principles, practices, and processes.
Working knowledge of district and federal labor regulations.
Proficient with Word and Excel or Google Docs and Google Sheets.
Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees while inspiring respect and credibility.
Able to exercise effective judgment, sensitivity, creativity to changing needs and situations.
Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people in the course of work.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Background in nonprofit or healthcare work helpful.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment: Works in a normal office environment with conditioned air, controlled temperature, and artificial lighting conditions. Long periods of sitting. Long periods of screen use. Ability to climb stairs to access office (although a ramp to upstairs office is available). Frequent verbal communication in person and by phone Extensive interpersonal interactions. Ability to work onsite.
